Our Advice Team
Our advisers are the primary source of guidance for our clients. They also oversee many of the processes and the direction that our business takes.
David is a Managing Director of AB Phillips Pty Ltd and Financial Affairs Pty Ltd. He is a Senior Adviser with particular expertise in the areas of retirement planning strategies, self-managed superannuation, and corporate superannuation. David is a Certified Financial Planner.
David blends high level technical knowledge with an easy to understand communication style. He has been successfully assisting personal and corporate clients to achieve their financial goals for 20 years.

Joanna commenced work at AB Phillips in September 2005 and has worked in all areas of financial planning, as an adviser and client service manager. Joanna’s role as Operations Manager AB Phillips focuses on providing whole of business operational support related to compliance, process improvement, operational effectives whilst also managing projects aimed at delivering AB Phillips operational and strategic objectives.
Claire commenced financial planning in 1997 in Perth and has been with Financial Affairs since her move to Melbourne in 2001. Claire became a Self Managed Super Fund Association Specialist Adviser in 2013. Claire has undertaken mandatory training related to the provision of financial planning, and can provide specialist advice on a range of financial matters.
Though Claire has worked across all areas of financial planning she is particularly focussed on the comprehensive strategies associated with the running of Self Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSF), retirement planning second generation wealth transfer, including disability support trusts and wealth creation
strategies. As part of her role, Claire is a member of the Financial Affairs investment committee which compiles, researches and reviews the investments used in all client portfolios. This involves sourcing potential new investments for our clients and the monitoring of the investments recommended on an ongoing basis.
Claire is focussed on building strong open relationships with her clients and helping create a tailored strategy for her clients to reach both their short term and lifestyle goals. Claire believes open communication and well set expectations on both sides are critical to her client relationships.
Wendy has been involved in the financial services industry for over 30 years, starting at Financial Affairs in 2016 and brings a wealth of experience to her role as a Senior Financial Adviser. Historically, Wendy has held positions within a number of high profile Fund Managers, including an Australian equities, fixed interest and a property fund manager; a superannuation and investment financial service provider and has experience in private banking. Wendy has previously managed a Financial Planning division of a Chartered Accounting practice and most recently managed a Financial Planning practice.
Wendy focuses on building strong relationships, providing clients with personal tailored quality advice and is also a part of Financial Affairs investment committee which forms the basis for our investment advice.
All Financial Affairs Advisers have undertaken mandatory training related to the provision of financial planning, and can provide specialist advice on a range of financial matters. All Financial Affairs Advisers are required to continually update their knowledge and skills through ongoing training.
Leonard has been a Senior Life Insurance Adviser at Financial Affairs Pty Ltd since 2016. A qualified Barrister, Leonard has over 20 years’ experience in the Life Insurance industry. He has worked for major Life companies both in South Africa and Australia in various sales and marketing positions. He is passionate about providing professional advice and exceptional service. His knowledge and experience with a wide range of providers and insurance products (Life,
Total and Permanent Disability, Trauma and Income Protection) allow him to tailor personalised solutions for all his clients.
Rowena Thiele FCPA is a qualified Accountant, Registered Tax Agent and Financial Planner with over 24 years’ experience. Rowena has worked in financial planning for 5 years and is a Representative specialising in retail super, self-managed superannuation and retirement planning.
Rowena is a trusted Financial Adviser working with a range of clients advising in taxation, business advisory incorporating mentoring and growing wealth for retirement. The ability to see the whole picture for a client is extremely important and having a strong skillset across a number of disciplines enables clients to feel confident that all aspects of their financial affairs are being considered.
Rowena is a fantastic listener and enjoys interacting with clients regularly. The opportunity for a client to have their financial affairs managed by an adviser who is skilled in both financial planning and personal and corporate taxation matters culminates in extremely productive meetings.

Joining Financial Affairs in 2018, Fiona brings over 10 years’ experience in paraplanning, compliance and associate adviser roles, as well as time in the IT industry as a business analyst. Fiona works alongside the Financial Affairs advisers to assist in formulating our clients’ strategies, providing technical support and financial modelling. Fiona also enjoys being a secondary adviser for our clients. Using her experience in compliance and process improvement, Fiona works with the whole team to ensure that our clients receive a high level of care.
Fiona is completing the CFP® Certification Program with the Financial Planning Association of Australia, and enjoys continually updating her knowledge to ensure her technical skills remain current.
Sally’s role at Financial Affairs involves formulating our clients’ strategies and being a secondary adviser for our clients. Sally enjoys working with our clients and our support team to put in place strategies that promote our clients’ financial wellbeing. Sally joined Financial Affairs in 2016 after previous experience over 11 years in paraplanning, compliance and support services.
Ryan’s role at Financial Affairs involves formulating our clients’ strategies and being a secondary adviser for our clients. He is also a member of the internal investment committee and looks forward to improving his knowledge on domestic and international financial markets.
Ryan joined Financial Affairs in 2017 after previously working as a CSM for two years and an accountant for six years. Ryan has a Bachelor of Business/Commerce (Accounting & Economics) and Diploma of Financial Planning

Seng has actively worked with us since 2011, ensuring processes run smoothly for our clients, he enjoys the client contact his role involves. Seng assists our clients with their queries, and with the implementation and ongoing management of their strategies and portfolios. Stephen’s role at Financial Affairs involves formulating our clients’ strategies and being a secondary adviser for our clients. Stephen enjoys working with our clients and our support team to put in place strategies that promote our clients’ financial wellbeing.
Stephen joined Financial Affairs in 2019 after seven years of previous experience in paraplanning, associate adviser and analyst roles.

Mary is passionate about Personal Insurance and enjoys the daily contact to help our clients. Mary has a Diploma Financial Services (Financial Planning)
Client Services Officer
Helena works closely with the advisers to ensure that the financial planning process for our clients runs smoothly. She can usually be found processing forms for client investments, annual renewals and reweights. She enjoys keeping the clients up to date by working on the website regularly and assists the advisers when corporate actions come around. Helena has been working with us for almost 10 years.

Alison’s role involves general financial planning administration. She shows she has abundant patience when updating Centrelink documents for our clients and she enjoys getting to know our clients when calling to organise your review appointments. Alison has been with the company since 2015, starting with a year in the mortgage and finance team before moving across to financial planning team.
Lilian commenced July 2018 as receptionist for Financial Affairs and AB Phillips group. She will be the first person you see when you visit the office! When she’s not making coffee, she spends her time sorting the mail and emails and assists with general administration jobs when required.
Chelsea commenced work with Financial affairs in May 2017 as the receptionist, she also makes a mean Cappuccino! Chelsea has worked as receptionist and general administration. Chelsea is enjoying learning about and getting to know our clients
Brett has an Advanced Diploma in Financial Services (Adv Dip FP). Brett initially founded Financial Affairs in 1991, more recently Brett established Complete Super Solutions in 2004 which provides a team of experienced, superannuation specialists to assist accountants and financial planners in the administration of their clients’ SMSFs.
Brett is authorised to provide financial product advice in deposit and payment products – Basic and Non-Basic Deposit Products only.
Brett has always had a strong interest in developing the technology that our practice uses in order for the business to ensure that it can keep a competitive advantage in an ever changing financial services environment.
